Marker
Blender Pens for transferring images
Chartpak
Marker Blender pens are made to do just that - blend
the colours of the markers when you are creating with the
Chartpak markers!
For the "altering type" they provide a way to get
an image into a book or onto an object that you can't feed
into a copier. They are convenient to take to workshops, but
they are smelly. Work in a well-ventilated place if
you are sensitive to solvents. (Um, personally, I like the
smell....!) Xylene is the solvent in the Chartpak
Marker Blender which allows you to transfer the image. Many
other solvents will work. Calligraphers will prefer solvents
that leave no residue so they may write on the surface after
transferring, and xylene leaves no residue.
-
Make a copy of the
image you wish to use. It must be done on a copier
or a laser printer. Inkjet copies from your computer
will not work.
-
Cut out the image
close around the edges, but leave some paper to hang on
to!
-
Place the image face
down in position.
-
Rub the marker over
the back of of the image, applying a bit of pressure. Don't
move the image! It might smear! You can lift up a corner
of the image to see how the transfer is progressing. If
your pen is very new, the solvent may flood onto the page,
and your image may blur as it transfers. A couple of practice
transfers will help you acquaint yourself with your pen.
- It's just like magic! The transferred
image will appear reversed onto the page. Keep that
in mind if you are transferring letters - you must reverse
the letters before you transfer them! Allow the transferred
image to dry, which won't take very long, then you can colour
or letter over top of the transferred image.
- Have fun!
