Quietfire Rubber Stamps used in this class:

1.Perhaps they are not stars

Supplies:

  1. Cut piece of smooth white cardstock about 1" larger on all sides than intended finished card. Use painter's or artist's tape to adhere to your worktable so that you won't accidentally wrinkle or tear your paper.
  2. Stamp "perhaps they are not stars" image on smooth white cardstock using Brilliance graphite black ink and Black glitter embossing powder.

STEP 1

  • Using the side tips of the portfolio pastels to scribble on colors. I used yelllow, red orange, red and red violet for the first layer.
  • Use your fingertip to begin working portfolios into paper. Work in a circular motion, smoothing and blending the colors.

STEP 2

This picture shows the piece after it has been worked a bit. After you work the colors in using a circular motion start drawing the colors out in a starburst fashion with your fingertip.

STEP 3

Add more streaks of portfolio pastels as shown. I used red, violet and violet blue. Use a tapping, pressing motion to work this layer of color. You want to get the stark lines out but not blend them totally into the underlying layer.

STEP 4

  • Add the final layer around the edges using the blue portfolio pastel crayon. Work this in, using a circular motion. Use your fingertip to slightly draw the color into the edges of the previous layers.
  • Once you have all the pastels applied and worked in, use a piece of wadded up tissue paper to work on piece. Start with the middle of the card, working and lifting excess color from around words. Pay particular attention to the centers of letters so that the words are mostly yellow.
  • Wad tissue to an unstained area and use this to make drawing and lifting motions from the center outward in a starburst fashion. Continue until you are pleased with your results. Trim to fit cardfront, leaving 1/4" all around.
  • Use corner adorner interlaced punch on corners.

  • Mount on a prepared cardfront created using the darkest color of the bazzill monochrom pack.
  • Trace around top layer of card with a stardust gel pen. Attach to prepared white card.
  • Use corner rounder on card.
  • Rub edges of card with brilliance pearlescent purple dewdrop inkpad.
  • Cut length of white silk ribbon. Place over scrap piece of white cardstock and use red, violet and blue violet portfolio pastel crayons to color the ribbon. Smooth and rub in colors.
  • Use small hole punch in upper left hand corner of cardfront, positioning it so that the hole is in the center of one of the punched areas. Fold colored ribbon a couple of times and pinch middle together. Thread thru hole from inside of card and pull thru enough to open loops. Wiggle ribbons until the top of the loops are over the punched hole. Thread ribbon ends thru the loops and then glently pull on ends until they tighten. Draw flat scissor blade along ribbons to curl.

2. And the Day Came

Supplies:

  1. Cut a piece of light green cardstock from Bazzill monochrom pack slightly larger than the Dreamweaver rose stencil.
  2. Use painter's tape to tape stencil on top of paper and tape both to work surface. Use pallette knife and apply Dreamweaver pearlescent embossing paste over stencil and paper.
  3. Scrape off excess paste and return to jar. Wash stencil immediately.
  4. Set embossed paper aside to dry for about an hour. when dry, put stencil over embossing and retape to work surface.
  5. Use small paintbrush to apply Perfect Pearls berry twist and forever green to stencil.
  6. Use a larger brush to burnish embossing to remove any excess powder.
  7. Trim and use corner rounder. rub edges with Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink and dip into tray of Gold embossing powder.
  8. Set with heat gun.
  9. Cut a piece of dark green Bazzill cardstock to 8 1/4" X 6 1/4". Use Scor-it tool to create card.
  10. I used the largest Spellbinder mega nestabilities, curved rectangles for this card. Follow directions on Spellbinders package for layer sandwich for whatever cutting/embossing machine you have. I used the Cuttlebug.
  11. Place prepared card so that the folded side is slightly inside the cutting die. Run thru machine. Because of the thickness of the double layer of cardstock in the prepared card, doing the embossing step is not necessary (at least with the cuttlebug).
  12. Stamp small Flourish image repeatedly over front of card using brilliance galaxy gold ink and gold embossing powder. Dust with embossing powder after stamping each image and set with heat gun when all images are stamped. Adhere stencil rose layer to card. Use Sakura stardust pen (or any gold or sparkle gel pen) to color embossed edges of card.

Inside of card

  1. Cut piece of light green bazzill cardstock slightly larger than the 3rd largest Spellbinder curved rectangle die.
  2. Run thru Cuttlebug and then run thru again to emboss edges.
  3. Stamp saying using Brilliance Graphite black ink.
  4. Use Sakura stardust pen on embossed edges.
  5. Adhere to card.

3. The Secret of Genius

Supplies you will need:

Instructions:

  1. Mix Perfect Pearls with water to create a paint.
  2. Spritz Perfect Ink Refresher on dark cardstock until wet. Rub in with paper towel.
  3. Paint long squiggles on the paper, then spritz with more Ink Refresher.
  4. Tilt and move the paper to mix the paint. (I found that cheap black cardstock didn't work well. I finally tried this on a piece of purple bazzill and that worked well)
  5. Finding the right mix of Perfect Pearls and water was also a tricky thing. Just mix up small batches and find what works best.
  6. Once I had a piece I was happy with I trimmed it to fit a light purple card.
  7. Stamp saying onto scrap of light purple Bazzill with Versamark and emboss with Holographic embossing powder
  8. Trim with decorative scissors.
  9. Adhere to card with glue.
  10. Attach Butterfly outline stickers as shown.

4. Home is the Heart

Supplies you will need:

  1. Create card using medium dark red bazzill cardstock from red monochrom pack.
  2. Trim polished stone layer (instructions to follow) to fit front of card so there is an even reveal on all sides.
  3. Use corner rounder on both card and polished stone layer. Adhere background to card.
  4. Trace around the polished stone layer with gel extreme copper pen.
  5. Stamp saying on medium light red cardstock from monochrom pack using brilliance graphite black ink and clear embossing powder. Heat set.
  6. Run thru cuttlebug machine using Spellbinders mega Nestabilities Curved Rectangles. Rub edges with Brilliance Cosmic Copper ink. Heat set.
  7. Fill in heart with red gel pen. Adhere to card as shown.

Supplies you will need:

Polished Stone Technique

The background layer is called polished stone and is created using alcohol inks.

  1. Cut quarter sheet of white glossy cardstock.
  2. Use wood applicator handle and felt applicator pads to avoid getting your hands inky and for better control.
  3. Stand applicator upright. Place several drops of these alcohol inks on the felt pad: red pepper from the tuscan garden kit, bottle from the rustic lodge kit and copper mixative. Add alcohol ink solution to blend inks. Stamp over surface of glossy cardstock til covered.
  4. Allow to dry and repeat until you are pleased with the look of the piece. Replace felt pad and add several drops of the copper mixative and alcohol ink solution.
  5. Stamp sparingly over piece to add highlights. Set aside to dry.
  6. When completely dry buff with a piece of tissue paper.
  7. Run thru cuttlebug machine using the d'vine swirl embossing folder.

5. Some Things are Felt

Supplies:

  • The base that the saying is stamped on is a tyvek tag. Tyvek is a form of polymer fiber that you see in some mailing envelopes and is commonly used as a moisture barrier in new home construction.

WARNING . . .

TYVEK RELEASES TOXIC FUMES WHEN HEATED. DO ANY HEATING OUTSIDE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND STAND UPWIND OF IT.

  • To color the tag I used Versamagic Dewdrop inkpads.the colors used are Pixie dust, Spring Pansy and Perfect Plumeria.
  • I started out by rubbing pixie dust lightly over the middle area of the tag. Then I used Spring Pansy to add more color to the edges and very lightly in areas of the middle. I followed with scattered swipes of Perfect Plumeria. I let that sit to dry about 10 minutes.

Pixie dust was then applied over all to blend and meld the colors. Since I didn't want to heat set this I rubbed Perfect Pearls over the tag using a white or neutral color called Perfect Pearl. I then sprayed the tag with workable fixative and set aside to dry. Repeat steps for coloring a second tyvek tag, doing both sides.

Go outside and heat the tag. Use a needle tool or skewer to hold the tag from blowing away. Heat the tag, manipulating it as it crinkles and crumples, until it is reduced to the size shown.

Suzanne has a very cool lil white silk ribbon available. Cut a lengh to fit card and wrap around both edges. Rub versamagic pixie dust along the ribbon to color. Set aside to dry.

Quietfire Design carries the Bazzill monochromatic packs, available in 8 color selections. Each package contains 5 sheets of 5 coordinating colors measuring 12"x12". This paper has a very nice texture similar to woven fabric such as linen.

  • Use the 2nd lightest color from the red package to create a horizontal card. Cut a layer of the medium purple slightly smaller than your card. Attach to card.
  • Stamp saying on tyvek card using Versamagic Perfect Plumeria. Attach to card.
  • Run a strip of double-sided tape on one side of prepared ribbon and attach to card as shown. Be sure to burnish the layers together so that you fully activate the adhesive. Failing to do so is the most common cause of adhesion failure.
  • Cut small pieces of the double-sided tape and affix puffy hearts to ribbon.
  • Tie 3 heart charms onto short lengths of gold thread. Knot 3 threads together and put knot thru hole in the embellishment made from the heated tyvek tag.
  • Use glue to attach tyvek embellishment to tag on card. Hold down in several places with fingers for a few minutes until the glue begins to set up. Use small pop-dots cut in half to place heart charms in position

6. When this Christmas

Supplies:

  1. Create card using medium dark green cardstock from bazzill monochrom pack.
  2. Stamp saying on piece of light green bazzill cardstock using versamark ink and red sparkle embossing powder. Heat set.
  3. Cut saying layer at angles and attach to card at an angle.
  4. Cut a piece of 1/4” wide double-sided adhesive tape to length that will encircle saying.
  5. Drape tape on card, twisting and bending tape for a freeform look. Press down firmly.
  6. Cut two other pieces to form “bow” loops and another piece for the tails. Form bow in upper left corner. Try not to get your fingerprints too much on the raw tape as the oils will reduce adhesion for next step.
  7. Press sheets or pieces of red leaf varigated foil over tape. Repeat until tape is completely covered.
  8. Tamp down with stiff brush to firmly adhere foil to tape and tape to card. Burnish foil with soft brush to remove any excess foil and return it to a container for future use.
