Instructions

Step One: Prepare Wood Covers

Take Butcher's Wax and follow instructions on packaging. I liked the Butcher's Wax because it gave the best sheen to the natural wood. I am sure that any version of furniture polish for wood will also work. I don't polish my furniture, so I did not have any in the house.

Step Two: Preparing Signatures

As sewn this book requires 16 two page signatures. Cut 32 sheets of Frankfurt White 9 by 12. Crease in half with bone folder. I do not use a paper cutter. I use a cutting mat and my craft knife.

Step Three: Sewing Signatures

Using templates provided in the Pipe Organ Binding Kit:
You will have the first two, the middle two and the last two following the pattern. I made two sets of pipes.

I used Jute. YIKES. After my fingers were ripped raw, I realized that there is various thicknesses. CHOOSE WISELY!!

Step Four: Drilling Holes in Covers

Using the templates provided, use your Dremel or Man Tools to drill in the covers. I put a small piece of masking tape on the wood to avoid any splintering.

Step Five: Decorating the first page of each signature

I stamped onto a piece of patterned paper (Basic Grey Periphery 6 by 6 pad) and then attached it to the lower corners. Now this really was an opportunity to embellish.

I had sewn the book together and realized that it looked a bit plain; I decided to stamp a quote in the corners of the pages. Well, needless to say that did not go as well as I would have liked once the book was sewn together.

They were a hot mess.

So may I suggest even if you are going to do all of your stamping ahead, still stamp on another paper, then alternate each quote in upper and lower corner to give the book balance when it closes.

Step Six: Picking a Closure

I used wood buttons from an old sweater
