For some odd reason, my gold leaf has languished in my stash for years, unappreciated and misjudged. Yes, I thought to use it would be complicated, cause a mess and take forever to work with. I could not have been more mistaken! Gold leaf is experiencing a renaissance in my craft room and I wanted to show you how easy it is to use for quick embellishment. There are several different types of adhesive that can be used but this application I am using EK Success Glue Pen. It gives me a fine line and then I am able to increase the width of the line by reapplying. Here are the steps I took to make my Find Yourself a Cup card with gold leaf embellishment:

Instructions

Supplies you will need for this project

Using Sepia Versafine and with any background stamp, cover an area large enough to fill a panel 5" x 5 1/4". Emboss with clear embossing powder. Adhere and layer to contrasting solid panel sized 5 1/8" x 5/38".
Optionally, smudge edges of card base and stamped panel with Antique Linen Distress Ink. Tie ribbon across center of card.

Select a size of Spellbinders Petite Ovals that best fits stamped image. For mine, I used Petite Ovals Large.

Stamp sentiment with Sepia Versafine and emboss with clear embossing powder.

Cut sentiment with oval shape, leaving cut image in the die template.

With EK Success Glue Pen, trace around inside of die template. Give several minutes to dry.
Using gold leaf scraps, pat the scraps on the set up glue then burnish with your finger applying a good amount of pressure.
Using a stiff bristled brush, sweep away any gold leaf particles that are not burnished down to glue marking.
Cut an additional oval using the companion ovals set. Since my main image was cut with Petite Ovals Large, I cut the background oval with the next larger size of Petite Ovals Small thus giving me 1/8" outline. Smudge edges with distress ink then glue to upper left corner of card. I added three small gold pearls to the bottom of card to balance it out.
