Instructions

Fig. 1

Creating the Bag

Cut a piece of folded newspaper (2 layers) to 15.5"w x 8.25"h. Open the newspaper and using a glue stick, apply a glue "border" about 1" wide around all outside edges. Fold the newspaper up again so now the 2 layers of newspaper are stuck together.

In order to avoid tearing the newspaper, put a ruler against each of the fold line spots as shown in Fig. 1. Lift the edge of the paper up and press against ruler to create a crease. Remove ruler and press down on creased line. Continue to do all the other crease lines. Note: newspaper is easily torn - if you used a stylus or bone folder be careful.

Dribble some gesso on one side of your newspaper and using a credit card smear the gesso all over in a very thin coating. Some areas can be bare. When dry, repeat on the other side.

Cut a piece of colored tissue paper approx 15.5"w x 6.5"h.

Brush a thin coating of Matte Medium onto the gessoed surface of your newspaper starting on one side. Place tissue paper down, more or less matching the side and bottom edge. (the top edge will be folded down later and hide any unevenness). Continue brushing on the Medium and pressing the tissue paper down until you get to the other side. Allow to air dry or use a hairdryer.

Cut 2 pieces of cardstock, 1"h x 4.25"w and adhere to edge of the fold line at the top. This will reinforce the top edge where the handles go. Place glue or double sided tape on the total length of the 1.25" fold-over section. Fold down.

Turn over and decorate the outside of the bag.

Decorating the Bag

Dry brush the Lumiere paints with random strokes. Let dry. Rubber stamp the heart shaped flourished wings (below) with the black stamp pad.

Stamp the various quotes in black.

Punch holes for appropriate eyelet in the 4.5" section and set.

Put some double sided tape onto the 1/2" edge, bring the left edge over to form the body of the bag. Align the cut edge with the folded edge of the flap. Note, the 1/2" edge will be on the inside.

Finishing the bag

Turn bag up or lay on its side if that's easier so the 2" section is facing you. Push the short side towards the inside as if you were wrapping a box. Do the same with the other side. Glue everything down, Stand the bag up and press from the inside to make good contact.

If you wish, you can cut another piece of cardstock and glue to the bottom of the bag on the inside.

Creating the Flower

Punch out 5 scalloped circles from the crepe paper, pinch one section following the vertical grain of the crepe paper. While holding the pinched portion, shape the petal a bit. Continue with remaining petals. Punch a small circle from cardstock, glue the pinched parts of the flower to the circle with white glue and let dry. Adhere the flower rhinestone, then adhere to bag with extra heavy gel medium.

Creating the stamped Heart Shape

Rotate each of the Calligraphic Wing stamps by 90 degrees as shown. Overlap stamped images as shown below. Note a stamp positioner is highly recommended.

Creating the stamped Corners

Stamp Wing A, then stamp wing B butting it close to Wing A. A stamp positioner is highly recommended.

Creating the Card

Fold cardstock to make a 4" x 4" side folded card.

Stamp corners as described above with the purple. Sponge some Scattered Straw on edges.

Stamp quote on white cardstock with the purple ink and clear emboss. Die cut circle, then dry emboss. Sponge some Worn Lipstick around edges. Layer onto a larger bright yellow circle. Adhere to card with 3D foam squares.
